Gracias Madre: SF Favorite Vegan Mexican Food
If live in San Francisco and crave for a good vegan food go to Gracias Madre. It’s laud and crowded, but what else could you expect from a Mexican restaurant? After eating there, we’ve decided that being vegan is not bad at all. All dishes were incredibly fresh and delicious, and their coconut bacon just blew our mind.
The interior is simple and feels very authentic with its heavy wooden tables and chairs. Therefore, don’t expect anything chic and modern this place is about food, not design. They have another location in West Hollywood, LA. We’ve never been there but heard it’s much more hip. Well, it’s Los Angeles after all. We know that Hollywood starlets love to get their veggie tacos there.
It’s a little hard to imagine how Mexican restaurant could be vegan. After all, traditional Mexican cuisine is based on animal protein. But Chef Chandra Gilbert managed to make it happen. You won’t miss sour cream, beef fajitas, or fish tacos. Instead, you’ll enjoy the freshness of avocado, lusciousness of cashew crema, and richness of coconut bacon with a hint of chipotle.
Gracias Madre is perfect for lunch or dinner and budget friendly. Order Gorditas ($12) crispy potato-masa cakes for a start. They serve it topped with avocado, warm salsa verde, and cashew crema. It’s satisfying and delicious.
Madre’s Chopped Salad ($15) with chickpeas, veggies and toasted sesame dressing can be a full meal. It’s very satiating, definitely go for it if you want to share with somebody.
At this restaurant everything ,which includes thick and comforting house made tortilla is great. For this reason, we highly recommend ordering Mexican classics Tacos ($6) and Quesadillas ($7). They load them with vegan chorizo, squash, and salsa. Once you’ve tasted those goodies, you’ll want more.
Finally, last but not list, our favorite Black Bean Burger ($15), even meat lover will enjoy it! Unfortunately, we didn’t try any deserts, but it’s a perfect reason to return to Gracias Madre.
Hope you’ll like this place as we do. But If you have any good vegan places in mind let us know, we would love to check them out!
